AVAMS NEWS:
Whilst we have issued many Newsletters in the past to our clients through snail mail and the Internet this is the very first through our new Internet Site so it represents a milestone for us ……..Bruce & Helen
2007 has been an extremely busy one recording and editing events and documentaries and making major expansion in fieldwork production , editing facilities and mass DVD duplication
Always on our Editing Decks are films and videos that we’re restoring as part of what we call the ‘Remembers Project’ A major part of our experience in the past was the recording of hundreds of TV programs and resources on communities and schools over the past 28 years. Bruce is restoring those with a strong historical, educational or innovatory interest and authoring them under different themes into interactive DVD’s which are placed in city libraries and schools for free access by the general public and students. In fact much of AVAMS time and financial resources goes into this project as a valuable contribution to preserving the history and heritage of communities and also valuing the work done by filmmakers of the past. Contact Bruce on info@avams.com.au for more details and to perhaps become involved with your own community remembers DVD collection. Full credit is given to any film submitted to the project.
BATHEX Collectibles display at the Bathurst Show on the 5th and 6th August was a wonderful event and it was one of the challenges I love to film as there is so much to record. As the Mayor described it, it was like going through one of the Worlds top museums. Thanks to Tracey who helped me with the Interviews on the first day. I had to go back on the Sunday to obtain all the cutaways I always like to add in such a film and was tempted to do some more one to one interviews. It should make an excellent resource film in the Remembers Project and the good thing is we already have on record the very first Bathex held in the Bicentenary Year. It is these types of community programs that we can also put to air through the Bathurst Community Website and WARP Satellite TV as well as ensuring they are kept for posterity as a DVD in Libraries.
As is usual each year we continue to attend Bridal Fairs in NSW and have a steady stream of Wedding Bookings and Edit jobs to keep up with. Our most recent Fair we are attending is in Orange on the Sunday 12th August. Thank goodness they choose Sundays for these fairs as we are usually run off our feet shooting weddings on the Saturday! Overall it is quite a stenuous weekend for us but one we really enjoy especially meeting future brides and their fiancées. It is also satisfying to find that people really respond well to the concept of having a video made not realising till they see a professional sample just how good the medium is to tell the story of their special day
This year our displays are far more visual. We are displaying Widescreen HiRes formats as well as Standard Screen work.
Whilst attending the movie makers display (SMPTE) at Darling Harbour we were fortunate to come across two other major displays Graphics Arts Equipment and Ideas for Business and Facilities and Resources available for Event Staging. Consequently our stand at Orange will have a number of eye-catching new displays on show. We welcome your comments if you are attending the Fair.
However now that we have started with updated advertising (not that we need to do much as demand by way of customer references, keeps the business well occupied), we are doing two things that we have been promising ourselves for a long time…Developing proper websites and new brochures. To give widespread coverage throughout NSW we have recently established production teams at Wellington and Cowra and also have stringer contacts in many other centres.
All of this takes time, but thanks particularly to Wai in Bathurst we have the beginnings of a fairly functional website which will have some sample clips of wedding movies. The site will also contain data to help potential client to estimate the cost of a Wedding Videos I recommend these sites to you and also particularly the Bathurst Community Website BCW which is rapidly developing and which will feature many of the community happenings and businesses in Bathurst. Do lookup this website at: www.bathurst.nsw.au and become involved. Exciting developments are planned in streaming video from Bathurst Events and the Remembers Project all over the world.
My sincere thanks to Ryan of Signography and Justin, Neil. Holly & Tara of Panorama Printing who worked tirelessly on the new designs and my production team who made the brochure’s content and website portray the exact messages we wanted to give to future clients.
A lot of our time is devoted to constant phone calls from people wanting to come to grips with new technologies and how to make best decisions regarding their selection and potential. Whilst some would say this wastes valuable production time. I would say just the opposite. The goodwill extended from helping people is far more satisfying than a big profit margin. This is also the reason why AVAMS is supporting the Bathurst Remembers Project, sponsored by Bathurst Regional Council as a community heritage asset.
